Representing yourself does not mean preparing your case alone.

A Litigant in Person is someone who brings or defends a court case without a solicitor or barrister conducting the litigation on their behalf.

The facts of your case matter, but so do the documents, evidence, deadlines and the way your position is presented. A potentially strong case can become much harder to pursue when the preparation behind it is incomplete or disorganised.

LiP Service™ provides the professional groundwork behind your case. We help organise the evidence, prepare the documents and give the case a clear structure while you remain in control of the proceedings.

The decisions, signatures and filings remain yours. The demanding preparation behind them is where we help.

The areas we cover

Preparation across seven core practice areas.

Whatever the dispute, the fundamentals remain the same: understand the case, identify the evidence, prepare the documents and meet the relevant deadlines.

01

Dispute Resolution

Civil and contractual disputes, including pre-action correspondence, letters of claim, claims, defences, evidence and preparation for negotiation or hearing.

02

Family Law

Support for private family proceedings where you represent yourself, including financial matters and child arrangements, with statements and supporting documents carefully prepared.

03

HMRC Disputes & Enforcement

Tax disputes, assessments and enforcement matters, including preparation of appeals, documentary responses and First-tier Tribunal material where appropriate.

04

Company & Commercial Disputes

Shareholder, director, supplier and contract disputes for SMEs, with evidence, statements, submissions and hearing material brought into a coherent case.

05

Construction Disputes

Payment, defect and contractual disputes, including preparation for adjudication and litigation where the underlying documents can be critical.

06

Small Claims Court

Whether bringing or defending a claim, we help organise the facts, documents and evidence so your case is focused and ready for the hearing.

  • Meridian does not exercise rights of audience or appear as your advocate before the court.
  • If another form of legal representation is more appropriate for your circumstances, we will tell you.
The barrister pathway

Prepare the case properly. Bring in specialist advocacy when it matters.

Meridian Licensed Access

When specialist advocacy is needed, there is a route to the Bar.

Licensed Access provides an established route through which eligible licence holders can instruct barristers directly without first instructing a solicitor.

Where specialist advice or representation is appropriate, Meridian can help coordinate suitable barrister involvement, subject to the circumstances of the case, the scope of the relevant authorisation and the barrister accepting the instruction.

The result is a practical pathway from professional case preparation to specialist barrister advice or advocacy where the case requires it.

Barrister suitability, availability and acceptance of instructions depend on the circumstances of each case.

Litigation strategy

Winning is not the only measure of a good outcome.

Many disputes resolve before a final hearing. Understanding when to continue, when to negotiate and when a commercial settlement may provide the better outcome is an important part of approaching litigation sensibly.

The objective is not unnecessary litigation. It is to help you put yourself in the strongest practical position available from the facts and evidence of your case.

Frequently asked questions

Before you decide to represent yourself.

What is a Litigant in Person?
A Litigant in Person is someone who brings or defends legal proceedings without a solicitor or barrister conducting the litigation on their behalf. You remain responsible for your case and the procedural steps required of you.
Can you help prepare my witness statement?
Where this forms part of the agreed service, we can help prepare a witness statement from your instructions, documents and evidence. You must check the final statement carefully and only sign it if you believe its contents are true.
Can you help prepare a court bundle?
Yes. Bundle preparation can form part of LiP Service™. We can help organise relevant documents into a coherent structure within the agreed scope of work.
Will Meridian conduct my court case for me?
No. Under LiP Service™ you remain the Litigant in Person and conduct the proceedings yourself. Meridian provides preparation and procedural support within the agreed scope.
Can a barrister represent me at a hearing?
Where appropriate, barrister representation may be available separately. Licensed Access can provide a route to suitable barrister involvement, subject to the case, the scope of the relevant licence, barrister availability and acceptance of the instruction.
How much does LiP Service™ cost?
The initial consultation is free. Where we can assist, the work is scoped and the fee agreed before paid work begins rather than operating an open-ended hourly clock.
Do you support consumers as well as businesses?
Yes. LiP Service™ is designed for consumers and SMEs where the matter falls within an area in which Meridian is able to provide the relevant support.
What if my case needs a solicitor instead?
Suitability is considered before work starts. If the circumstances mean that another form of legal representation or advice is more appropriate, we will tell you.
